Hebrews 8:13 By calling this covenant “new,” he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and outdated will soon disappear.
I love that God keeps updating things. He is a God on the move, a God who makes “all things new”.
We think that people are so innovative and on the edge but just think about Who gave us the creative energy to come up with new ideas… God is a God of the new, not of the old.
Unfortunately a lot of people prefer to stick with the “old ways” while they ponder the “old days” – and usually these people look like they are living in an “old age”! God is presented by them as an old man with a stick who is grumpy, boring and totally irrelevant to modern day living. No wonder many have escaped from churches who have preferred to stick with the old news rather than present the Good news.
The old is obsolete, that means you don’t need it any more. You don’t need to try to live by the law, since that doesn’t work. Now you live by grace, by faith in the Son of God. You don’t need to try to please God, since you don’t have to. You are already pleasing to Him – now you can just enjoy life, as his child. A child who always discovers… new things!
