Hebrews 6:19 We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain…
When you go sailing and decide to anchor the boat in the middle of the lake to take a swim: make sure you anchor your boat securely – or it’s a long swim back!
Anchors are made to secure things. Windmills have anchors to secure the wings. Boats have anchors. Now our soul also has an anchor. Many people in this world live without a secure soul anchor. Their “soul anchor” is floating behind them wherever they go and they try to put it down in pop music, movies, friends or in their career. But it’s shallow ground at best, and there is no lasting feeling of security. Or we try to feel secure in the money we have on the bank; in what the government can do for us; or in our health, our friends, our “status” or how many friends we have online. None of these things will give us a secure hope.
There is only one anchor that lasts and gives a security that goes deeper than this world. It’s the anchor of Jesus Christ, who has taken your soul and clung it to the walls of heaven. When you know who you are in Christ you know you have a position with him in heaven. You know you are free, redeemed, rescued… Secure. You have a hope that is firm and secure. You really have a soul anchor.
Today, thank God for the security you have in him. Then go spread the good news that anyone in this world can feel secure. In Him.
