Today we are starting afresh with a new daily Bible roster, going through most of the Bible in one year. Every day we’ll zoom in on one of the scriptures listed.
Genesis 1:27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them
The book of Genesis contains all the “seeds” for the rest of the Bible. Creation, sin, salvation, work, marriage, calling, election, miracles, the work of Christ.. it’s all there. Without this book we would miss the foundation of a lot of topics. One of the things we would miss is how God relates to us, mankind. Or better: how we relate to him.
When the Bible says “in the image of” what it means is that we are related. Sometimes someone can walk up to you and ask ‘are you related to so and so, cause you look so alike?’ This is how it is with God and us. We look like him. Ever wondered where emotions come from? We laugh and we enjoy because he laughs and enjoys. We experience grief, cause he experiences it. What about anger? From him. Sadness: from him. God can get sad and angry about certain situations and so can we. Everything we have and feel is because he had and felt it first.
As we step into this year we will get to know God a bit better, especially through his son: Jesus Christ, who “is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation” (Col 1:15).
