1 Thessalonians 5:7-8 Those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. 8 But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.
It is almost night, and at night… I will be asleep. During the day, I am awake, ready, alert. Yesterday we read about being ready. Those who live during the day are ready and self-controlled (that is, having a sound mind, being able to control their body and soul, emotions, will, thoughts, life). How do we do this?
Through faith, hope and love. Again (see also this blog). Faith and love are a breastplate to cover our heart against the arrows of fear and hate (see Ephesians 6:16). Hope is a helmet to cover our mind (head) against despair (see Ephesians 6:17). The armour of faith, hope and love will be what we need to live from a heart of faith and love, and a mind of hope.
Let’s get ready.
