Work out to get it worked in

A work-out is a time of strenuous exercise by which we get stronger. The Bible encourages us to “work out” our salvation. We got to work at becoming more whole every day.

Philippians 2:12-13 Continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act

Excuse me? “Continue to work… for it is God who works”. How does this work? Do I work, or does God work?

The solution is in the difference between the connecting words “out” and “in”. I got to work out so that God can work it in. That means that I got to go out to God, so that God can come in to me. As I step out each day and work at my prayer life, God steps in and works at me.

It’s a work-out to get it worked in.
